GIT (RIP)

Well, sad as it all seems to anyone who has enjoyed their beautiful singing and wonderful on-stage presence, the group Git now exists only as a memory. To anyone outside the band, the end might seem to have come around in a stinking hurry but I think it's fair to say things have been dysfunctional internally for a while now. As it stands, the reasons for the break-up are complex and really, it's a personal thing and there's no point in going into it any more than that.

But I suppose something good always tends to come out of these situations and we definately haven't heard the end of these three yet. First out of the blocks is Trish Anderson's new ensemble, MRS WAINWRIGHT. If you head to the NEWS PAGE you'll find out all about their inaugural four track EP DEAD MAN'S POCKET. Suzannah Espie released her debut solo album A FEW MORE DAYS with her rockin' country outfit, THE LAST WORD late last year on Mixmasters Records.

And most recently, Sarah Carroll has completed her debut EP PIRATE GIRL out on Croxton. It's a nice little five track EP which we figure will be a good taster for the full length album which should drop later in the year (most likely May). After hearing Pirate Girl, we are full of anticipation here at Croxton Records and think the full album is going to be a beauty. It's a bit like Git but she sure hasn't been afraid to try new things - even over the short course of a five track EP. Some of these tracks will be on the album but a fair bit of it will be exclusive to this release only. Sarah will be launching Pirate Girl on Wednesday the 29th of March at The Spanish Club in Fitzroy (9:30pm) accompanied by special guest trio The Drunk Men. For more info, make sure and check out Sarah's new website...

For the time being at least, all these developements (tour dates/releases etc) will be appearing on the GIT WEBSITE so you can keep in touch with what the girls are up to. All Git merchandise will continue to be sold at the live shows of the various incarnations.

It's been a joyous journey for Git, ever since Sarah, Suzannah and Trish first joined voices, one afternoon way back in the summer of 1998, in a little kitchen in the suburbs, the kettle boiling all the while. From that day onwards, Git has been a living thing, a band which has grown with all the life and love breathed into it. With three successful US tours behind them, rave reviews in the Australian, US and UK music press, a wildly devoted fanbase worldwide, it's with sadness that we say goodbye.

Look out for SARAH CARROLL'S new EP PIRATE GIRL... out now on Croxton Records.
