UNDERMINERS debut album OUT NOW
UNDERMINERS are the new band showcasing the singing and songwriting of Justin 'Happy' Hayward, best known as front person of the sorely underated and much missed Dead Salesmen.

Beginning as a collaboration between Happy and guitarist Chris Morris, Underminers have recently expanded with the addition of the rhythm section from legendary central Victorian country rockers The Sparnettes. Croxton are pleased to announce their debut album, Beyond The Stars, full of stunning, heartfelt tunes all with a fair helping of Hap's whistful, slightly off-beat sense of humour.

"Songs are like secrets you're ready to tell. The songs on my album Yippee come from deeply hidden places; mine and other people's. Mostly mine. I have loved the whole process of baring, and finding the most beautiful way I can to express these little stories. Some of the friends who helped are Azo Bell, sailor of Byron Bay, who plays the most wondrous things on ukulele and saw; Any Baylor, my indispensable pal, who oversaw the early sessions and played fiddle, mandolin and guitar on pretty much everything. Leigh Ivin, of North Coast legends, The Re-Mains, (pedal steel and electric guitar) who I believe is a genius; Jeff Lang, possibly Australia's most talented acoustic guitarist and dobroist! who appears on four tracks and blesses each one; Chris Wilson, whose unmistakable tone soaks everything it touches with emotion; and the Damp Panties, a seven-piece singing chickfest including Suzannah Espie, Lil Fi, Barb Waters and Kerri Simpson. How could it not have been fun? Please enjoy it as much as I do!"

MARCEL BORRACK releases I Was Only Dreaming
Croxton are very proud to announce the release of MARCEL BORRACK'S second album, I WAS ONLY DREAMING. This is a genuine, confident second offering, finding its heart in the lush pastoral environment it was made in as much as in Marcel's unpretentious storytelling and subtle arrangements. And if you're inclined to appreciate albums on headphones, "you're likely to hear lots of cows and birds in the background", promises Marcel. I WAS ONLY DREAMING is already generating buzz, with music writer Jeff Jenkins (Inpress) saying "Marcel Borrack's HELP was my Album Of The Year in 2004. And I think I WAS ONLY DREAMING might be even better. In his own understated way, this guy could be destined to be one of the songwriting greats..." THE DUNAWAYS release Great Western Tears
Way back a long time ago, THE DUNAWAYS were one of the first ever Croxton acts, and with their classic roots-pop style probably went a long way to defining the style of record label we were to ultimately become. WANDERIN' MIND is still a classic record as far as we are concerned but with four people whose lives had various priorities, a follow-up has seemed at times problematic and at others downright unlikely.

But wonders will never cease and we are very proud to announce that THE DUNAWAYS have released album number two, GREAT WESTERN TEARS. While it's still the same rocking folk-pop combo we released back then, there are a few production detours in evidence this time around. Still, it's all about the songs, and the pens of Mark Narkowicz and Andrew Viney would seem to have been working just fine (ably supported by Graham Rankin and Martin Witherford). Listening to such gems as Ex Pop Song and Sweetheart takes us straight back to the pure fresh Tasmanian power pop of the Fish John West Reject at their best. See the REVIEWS PAGE for some recent glowing reviews of GREAT WESTERN TEARS.

NEW RELEASES / RE-MAINS & DAN WARNER
Croxton is proud to announce two fantastic new releases for July!

FIELD CONDITIONS is the latest full-lengther from far-northern NSW's country rock'n roll renegades, THE RE-MAINS and it's an absolute pearler, their best distillation of country rock'n roll yet from the coal-face. A 15 track epic careening from banjo-delic rock onslaughts (Motherlode, My Friend The Bushranger) to pedal steel-drenched alt-country sagas (Horse, White Dress), it features the single, also a video, Quit Singin' The Blues, a boisterous dirt-track ballad evocative of Creedence Clearwater Revival or Wilco in a good mood.

FIELD CONDITIONS is now available online...

And, we're very excited here at Croxton HQ that MR DAN WARNER has made his Croxton debut with the wonderful album A LIKENESS OF YOU. For those of you familar with Dan and his previous work (The Warner Brothers, Overnight Jones, Dan & Al, Dan & Kev, The Dead-Set Friendlies) you'll know what a treat you're in for - for those of you who haven't heard Dan, think Mick Thomas/Paul Kelly crossed with Jeff Tweedy/Ryan Adams (circa Whiskeytown) and you're on the right track. Already dubbed "album of the year" and added to community and ABC stations nationwide, it's picking up some great press coverage. 3RRR in Melbourne added it to their Soundscape's recommended playlist - plus Jarrod Watt from ABC Ballarat posted a great review of the album on the ABC website.

MRS WAINWRIGHT DEBUT SINGLE /VIDEO OUT
MRS WAINWRIGHT is the new outfit for Trish Anderson (ex Git) alongside Anthony 'Shortie' Shortte (Collard Greens & Gravy) and 'Diesel' Pete McKenna (Monogamous Dog). They have a new single/video release out now on Croxton Records and have been getting some great reviews...

"Trish Anderson's energetic vocal gymnastics surface on Mrs Wainwright's four song debut Deadman's Pocket (Croxton). Theres even a hint of Jefferson Airplane's Grace Slick in her atmospheric title track... It's a contrast...to ...the haunting beauty of ...Dreams Are Soft. Guitarist Pete McKenna borrows from a crime narrative genre tilled by artists diverse as Tom Pacheco, Charlie Robison and Robert Earle Keen in Story Writer."
David Dawson, Beat Magazine, May '05

"What does this mean to the listener? It means tasteful, spacious compositions ranging from the spooky alt-pop of 'Deadman's Pocket', a countrified lover's lament in 'Dreams Are Soft', broken-down rock in 'Story Writer' and finishing with a country tribute to a big rural bloke in 'Oh Louis, My Louis'. All songs are written by the band and the pure, passionate voice of Trish Anderson sits up front in the mix - she can sing it rough, she can sing it dirty, but here she maintains that vocal fragility that can be all breathy and sultry in one song and down-home and strident in another. It's tasty stuff that begs the question: when's the album come out?"
Jarrod Watt , ABC On-line, April '05

CROXTON VS THE US PRESIDENT
According to a recent article in the New York Times, US President George Bush has about 250 songs loaded onto the iPod he received from his daughters as a birthday gift. Used mostly for his bike riding work-outs, the selections show a penchant for mostly country with a strong Texas flavour, and a very small sampling of a dozen tunes from the playlist has been released - most surprising is the inclusion of 'El Paso' by Texas alt-country group THE GOURDS, which featured on their 2000 Croxton Records release 'Bolsa De Agua' [croxt006]. As Joe Levy, a deputy managing editor at US Rolling Stone, observed of the playlist, "One thing that's interesting is that the president likes artists who don't like him."

INTERVIEWS ON HOWLSPACE...
Ed Nimmervoll's excellent Australian music website Howlspace currently features a great RealVideo interview with Mick Thomas where he talks about the new album, life post-Weddings, and even a little bit about good ol' Croxton Records. Check it out HERE. A similarly articulate interview Ed did with NICK BARKER is available also.
