SARAH CARROLL was born in St Kilda in the summer of love to bohemian writer parents who took her and little brother Ricky all over the country, and Papua New Guinea! Her father's family was full of dancers, drummers, singers and ukelele players who graced the homes and stages of Melbourne in the 20s and 30s, while her mother loved to hear her sing Morning Has Broken, but not I Was Made For Loving You. Sarah's life so far has been full of great music played by the best, an inspiring environment for the girl who wanted to sing like Elvis and Patsy Cline rolled into one.

Career highlights include seven fantastic years in the band Git, whose trips around Australia and to the USA found friends and fans for the 3 women singer/songwriter/guitarists everywhere. Rave reviews from South By Southwest (Austin, Texas), British and European music press and generous radio airplay here at home ensured Sarah and the others always had high profile gigs and opportunities to record several times. Sarah was highly involved in each record's production, and has long been considered a talented writer, singer and arranger by her colleagues.

With the recent demise of Git, a new band, The Junes, is being formed around Sarah and Suzannah Espie, also featuring accordionist/fiddler Glenyss Rae (Toe Sucking Cowgirls). Sarah has been director of the Tides Of Welcome Soul And Gospel Choir for two years, and recently led the choir in recording an album at the beautiful and renowned St George The Martyr Anglican Church in Queenscliff, Victoria, where the choir is based.

Sarah has worked with husband Chris Wilson, Andy Baylor and Tim Hall (The Whitlams) and as part of Git, with Bill Kirchen (USA), Jeff Lang, Matt Walker, Barb Waters and Mick Thomas. Having just released her debut solo album, YIPPEE, with help from these and many others, Sarah hopes for a warm reception from her friends in the press and radio, as well as her peers in the music scene, with a few surprises included in the all-original music.

Being invited to sing with The Unconscious Brothers has taken Sarah in a wonderful new direction, as country meets soul meets Latin and even a touch of rock steady. Her passion for being on stage in front of a great band has found a home. Sarah Carroll is making a unique contribution to the Australian musical landscape by redefining classic country and western swing at the same time as she develops an original writing style. She also has more fun performing than anyone else you can think of.

"Songs are like secrets you're ready to tell. The songs on my album Yippee come from deeply hidden places; mine and other people's. Mostly mine. I have loved the whole process of baring, and finding the most beautiful way I can to express these little stories. Some of the friends who helped are Azo Bell, sailor of Byron Bay, who plays the most wondrous things on ukulele and saw; Any Baylor, my indispensable pal, who oversaw the early sessions and played fiddle, mandolin and guitar on pretty much everything. Leigh Ivin, of North Coast legends, The Re-Mains, (pedal steel and electric guitar) who I believe is a genius; Jeff Lang, possibly Australia's most talented acoustic guitarist and dobroist! who appears on four tracks and blesses each one; Chris Wilson, whose unmistakable tone soaks everything it touches with emotion; and the Damp Panties, a seven-piece singing chickfest including Suzannah Espie, Lil Fi, Barb Waters and Kerri Simpson. How could it not have been fun? Please enjoy it as much as I do!"
